What is an environmental weed?
Environmental weeds are weeds that impact on the natural environment.
They may be spread by birds, water, wind... or more commonly
by humans.
When they invade natural environments they can outcompete
native plants, reducing habitat and food resources for native
animals. They may also impact on human health, access, recreation
and infrastructure.
There are no legal requirements to remove environmental weeds
from your land unless they are declared noxious
weeds.
The Bushland
Friendly Nursery Scheme
Nurseries that a do not sell plants from the list of environmental
weeds are promoted as being "bushland friendly nurseries".
By shopping at these nurseries you can be sure that any plants
you take home will not threaten your local bushland.
For more details on the scheme visit the Bushland
Friendly Nursery Scheme website, where you'll also find
a comprehensive environmental weeds identification section
