2006 NSW North-east NSW & South-east Qld Weeds Forum

Solving Common Weed Problems

The 5th North Coast Weed Forum was held on May 10th at the Seagulls Club at Tweed Heads. The forum attracted around 160 delegates mostly from NSW and Qld.

The combination of South East Queensland and Northern NSW weeds practitioners provided the opportunity for cross border communication on very similar issues and identifying current and potential weeds. This combined approach improves strategic management. The audience was a mix of Local and State government representatives and service authorities, as well as members of Landcare, Bushcare and Dunecare community groups.

Topics included Defeating the weeds Menace, Updates on Biological Control, new weeds and declared noxious weeds, coastal weeds, early detection of aquatic weeds, the Noxious Weeds Act changes in NSW, weeds and their impact on biodiversity, honey locust, cats claw creeper, siam weed and telegraph weed.

The NCWAC thanks all of the speakers for making it such a successful day. Proceedings of the forum will be available on the NSW North Coast Weeds Advisory Committee website www.northcoastweeds.org.au

Thanks to the Weed Society of Queensland and Qld Department of Natural Resources for promoting and assisting with the administration of the day.
